Financial markets can play a key role in shaping economic decisions to avoid ecological collapse, and sustain human health, while building a safer and more resilient future. The extent to which the current financial system can prevent planetary harm, address long-term risks and nurture planetary health needs consideration. This workshop will be an opportunity for the Secretariat of The Rockefeller Foundation Economic Council on Planetary Health and others to consider the challenges of financing planetary health.
Natural Capital: Policy and Practical Applications for Planetary Health Workshop

This workshop will provide an opportunity for the Secretariat of the The Rockefeller Foundation Economic Council on Planetary Health to receive valuable feedback on its main conclusions and recommendations from a panel of invited experts, and to foster discussion about how natural capital approaches can rise to the global challenges of planetary health.

The meeting, convened under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council, will review in depth several of the Sustainable Development Goals (Goals 4, 8, 10, 13, 16, 17). The reviews are state-led, involving ministerial and other relevant high-level participants, and provide a platform for partnerships, including through the participation of major groups and other relevant stakeholders. It includes a three-day ministerial meeting from 16-18 July.

Organized by the Planetary Health Alliance and Stanford University, through its Woods Institute for the Environment and Center for Innovation in Global Health, this meeting aims to strengthen the scientific case for planetary health, learn from efforts to solve planetary health problems, and convene stakeholders from academia, the private sector, civil society and government to support conversations to address planetary health issues.

It will focus on key sectors where action can make the most difference — heavy industry, nature-based solutions, cities, energy, resilience and climate finance.
